Mon - Jan 16/12

We could hear rain on the roof occasionally through the night. It was even heavy at times.

The road was still wet with a few puddles when we got up in the morning. The flow pattern of the Northern Jet Stream that was keeping us warmer than usual also pulled up moisture from the Southern Jet Stream that runs through Mexico bringing us some rain from the Pacific.

Still overcast, it was a good day to relax. Charlotte had another enjoyable session at Pen and Ink. The chicken/rice/cream of mushroom soup supper with veggies we bought at the Green Bee produce market last week was really tasty.

Surprise. We thought we had tickets for the Six Feet Up show for tonight. Somehow we missed buying these tickets when we bought a bunch for this month's events. We went early to buy tickets at the door and had our choice of tables. We were joined by folks from B.C (Vancouver Island) and Alberta (Calgary). One of the band members came over to talk to us. Like one of the folks at our table they were also from Alberta (Edmonton). Not only are there a lot of Canadians in the park - they are the most active group.

Six Feet Up is a 3 member brass/woodwind band from Edmonton (AB, Canada) that is booked all over Arizona for the snowbird months (Jan-Mar). About a third of their bookings are listed as Private with the remainder being dances, shows, supper shows or a combination of these.

Our event was the "Top of the Charts" show that consists of 2 one hour show segments with a 15 minute intermission (mostly spent circulating/talking to the crowd).  They played period music in 3 to 4 songs medleys that covered the chart topping music featuring genre eras from the 1900's to the 1980's.

Their instruments ranged from alto/baritone/tenor/soprano sax, to the flute, clarinet and trombone. Mixed with vocals (Male/Female) their sound verged on the fullness of a "Big Band". The 50 plus songs covered musical styles from Ragtime to Broadway, Motown to Funk, Disco to Jazz, Rock and Roll to Latin, Crooners to the Beatles and, of course, Big Band.

This was a most enjoyable evening that ended, as usual, at 10 p.m. sharp.
