Thu – Apr 12/12

As Willie (Nelson) would say “On The Road, Again”.

All hooked up and on the road by 9 am.

We departed Canyon Vistas and headed east on US-60 climbing uphill through the mountains (love the scenery) and a tunnel towards Globe, AZ. A stop in Globe for a McDonald’s. They have a parking lot big enough for RV’s  and it is right on US-60. Less than a mile later we then turned onto US-70 passing through Geronimo, AZ on the San Carlos Apache Reservation on the way towards Safford, AZ.

At Safford we stayed on US-70 towards all the way to Lordsburg, NM instead of turning onto US-191 to connect to I-10 like we did when coming in the winter. I did not want to chance this section in the winter. Now I know this route is shorter, the road is good and the weather is fine.

I-10 was good driving all the way through to our first night stop and first fill-up at the Flying J in Anthony, TX (Exit 0 – just across the border). I pulled the RV between two motorhomes. As I  shut down the “Brake Buddy” I met the co-pilot (lady) from the RV behind us. They were from New Brunswick. She was walking her dog and wondered why the Del Sol had her dog’s name (Taffy) on the license plate.

They wintered in Yuma, AZ – sometimes staying at a casino. Her son was in the brand new Bounder parked in front of us. He was towing a brand new Mazda Miata (hardtop/convertible) on a brand new Aluma-Trailer. Notice a trend here? I’m guessing he won big at the casino?

Charlotte and I went into Denny’s for supper and picked up a few items in the truck stop store.

Returning to the RV I phoned “Sunset Point on Lake LBJ” at Marble Falls, TX to see if I could get an RV reservation for the weekend. This was the original plan; but I did not want to call ahead in case we had a road problem. I hate losing a deposit. We were lucky! No pull-thrus left but we got the last spot (back-in) available. This would not be a problem as we would be unhooking the Del Sol to travel to Burnet, TX ( 15 minute drive) for the “Bluebonnet Festival” on the weekend. The only catch – it is a gated park and the gate is locked after the park office closes at 4 pm.

We “hit the sack” right away as we would need an early start to reach our destination before closing.
