Thu., 7 Feb 13

Most of the day was spent trying to figure out our next move. Our reservation here ends tomorrow and we depart (or stay) on Saturday. We had to decide.

We have to return home by Feb 25th as our "Out-of-Country" Health Insurance will expire on that date. The cost of an extension is ridiculous (even if we would qualify). The base rate would be around $1,700.00. We don't qualify for the base rate - perhaps we don't qualify at all - being over 65 with diabetes (both)  and heart conditions (triple bypass and stents between us). Our daily rate would be beyond ridiculous.

So - we are going home for at least 24 hours after which time our coverage will recycle to being available for another 62 days - and then - south we go, again.

We enjoy where we are currently staying (Clerbrook Golf and RV Resort); however, being a golf resort makes this the most expensive month. Factoring in the cost of electricity and WI-FI would put the cost for the next month well over $800.00 which is too much considering that we would be gone (travel time home/back) almost half of that time. February is the shortest month with the highest monthly rate - go figure?

Being the peak season for visiting DisneyWorld and Universal Studios in Orlando, FL makes the flights more costly at this time of year. Cheaper flights are available from other departures. They are good deals if you live near the airports where they are offered; otherwise, the cost of getting there becomes prohibitive. Any flights would still require costly transportation to and from the airports at both ends.

We checked out the train which we thought would be a go. We had travelled around the USA and Canada on trains for a month about 10 years ago. It was enjoyable and we were looking forward to doing it again. Then, we discovered the train presented an additional problem. Construction on sections of track in Florida on the days we wished to travel would require we go to Jacksonville to catch the train rather than using one of the area stations. That nixed the train trip.

The bus is out as well. We had done this trip before - no thanks. The bus is fine in most places except the New York City - Florida Corridor. Things may have changed since we came to DisneyWorld on the bus (not a charter bus trip) several years ago. At that time top grade equipment was not used on these routes. On that trip many riders presented problems - some having to be removed by police at the bus station. Often the air was hard to breathe (odour) and the bus stations did not have the best facilities. They were also not in the safest part of town. Riders often were loud at all times (music, cell phones, conversations) with one talking loudly and continuously on a cell phone for several hours. We decided not to try this mode of transportation again.

After spending most of the day on the Internet or in discussion we came to our final decision. We will set out to discover another area and cut our resort charge in almost in half. Friday we will get the RV set for early departure on Saturday morning. We should arrive at our destination before dark.

Our intended destination will be Wales West RV Resort and Campground in Silverhill, AL. We were lucky enough to get that last RV spot large enough for our motorhome that was available for a month or more.
