Sunday - 3 April/16

A lovely day today! The cold front brought in lower temps (High 70's F) with lower humidity and clear skies.

Charlotte made pancakes with Nutella - a sweet treat!

It took a long time to get the new iPhone Software update. It was downloaded and installed by the end of the biographical classic (7 Oscars) epic "Out of Africa" which we watched from our collection - all 161 minutes.

The story follows the life of a Danish noblewoman, Karen Blixen (Meryl Streep) who establishes a plantation in (Kenya) Africa. Her life is complicated by a marriage of convenience to a philandering (and freeloading) husband who passes syphilis on to her, a true love and adventurer, Denys (Robert Redford) , her quest to school the native children, and war. A nice relaxing afternoon movie (Charlotte found it good to knit by) that must have been visually impressive in theatres when viewed in the original IMAX.

A little after 4 p.m. we left for the Orange Blossom Opry. We had tickets for "The Diamonds" at 5 p.m. The group originated in Toronto, ON in 1953 and are most famous for their appearances (33) on Dick Clark's American Bandstand and their hits: Little Darlin'; Silhouettes; and The Stroll (Leaving out the "Bunny Hop" this was probably the first "Line Dance" - grin).

We were debating whether to as we had already seen them (featuring lead singer Dave Somerville - who passed in 2015) at Dick Clark's American Bandstand Theatre a few years ago. This rendition still has Gary Owens, the longest standing current member (since 1973) of the Diamonds.

We are certainly glad we decided to go - they were absolutely fabulous. They took us through the 50's and 60's with their fantastic voices and showmanship. They covered all the great artists from Motown to Frankie Valle and Bobby Darin to The Lettermen. When they performed their unusual "A Cappella" (no instruments) rendition of the Beach Boys "In My Room" without microphones the sold out audience was spellbound. (I actually think most were holding their breath).

After the show we decided to head to Gator Joe's in Ocklawaha, FL for supper. Instead of our usual "Fish and Chips" we shared a trio of appetizers: Fried Green Tomatoes; Fried Shrimp and Jambalaya. The change was a treat!

As it was now dark we took US-441to SR-19 back to the motorhome. The route is longer; however it is multi-lane, well lit and has light traffic this time of night.

This made for a relaxing; but entertaining, semi-busy day.
